Serious and Violent Offender Reentry

Alaska Department of Corrections (Amount: $1,407,000*)
The Alaska Department of Corrections will target three age groups:
juveniles ages 14–17 who have been waived to the adult system,
young adults ages 18–24, and adults ages 25–35. Grant funds will
be used to enhance an existing reentry program in the southeast
and Yukon regions of the state, with an emphasis on rural communities
surrounding Juneau and Bethel. The program’s services will include
mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, vocational
training, educational training, employment services, housing assistance,
family and cultural counseling, community transition services,
and community and correctional supervision.

Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (Amount: $593,000*)
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services’ Division
of Juvenile Justice will improve management of approximately 100–120
juveniles ages 14–20 who have committed violent, serious, and habitual
crimes. These offenders will be released in the greater Anchorage
area following at least 6 months of incarceration. The Division
of Juvenile Justice, in collaboration with community agencies,
will provide supervision, support, mentoring, training in job readiness
and transitional living skills, and Functional Family Therapy.
Funds will also be used to develop standards of practice to ensure
quality services for offenders, their victims, and communities
across Alaska.
