Serious and Violent Offender Reentry Initiative Grantees

Nevada Department of Corrections (Amount: $1,479,007*)

The Nevada Department of Corrections will target male and female offenders ages 14–35 from the southern region of the state. Collaborative partnerships consisting of state agencies, local law enforcement agencies, mental health agencies, and employment agencies and various drug treatment, faith-based, and community service organizations will provide comprehensive reintegration services. Services to be provided include substance abuse treatment, employment assistance, housing assistance, mental health treatment, community support services, vocational training, educational training, victim impact training, intensive supervision, and case management.

Nevada Department of Public Safety (Amount: $520,977*)

The Nevada Department of Human Resources, Division of Child and Family Services, will target Clark County youth ages 14–17 who are leaving state youth correctional facilities. The project will enhance the Intensive Aftercare Project, Fresh Start, implemented in 1995; promote community involvement in youth’s reentry to the community; and provide youth parolees with a maximum of supervision and services, including mental health and/or drug and alcohol treatment in the institution and in the community. Grant funds will also be used to hire a project director/liaison to be located in Las Vegas and work with youth and staff at Caliente Youth Center, a liaison/counselor to be located at Nevada Youth Training Center in Elko, and a clerical assistant to provide services to the project director/liaison and the liaison/counselor and to assist with correspondence, recordkeeping, communications, and data collection.
